Gator Dream
by River Snowdrop
i’m dreaming of crocodiles again and kissing other people;
sweetened terror, sore.
congregations form (dark lake) and the eye gnats’ takeoff;
culpable dread.
before the threat, i am bold, wanting. painting of hand to
cheek and lip to lip; roles slip over me
like sundress, desire / desired, familiar heat. meanwhile:
the teeth. reptilian lurking. who is this hurting?
my perfidious dance—
somewhere: a stove burning, a knob being turned.
