Dream Journal

by Nora Rawn

In my dream I fall asleep at the table,
in the cafe, talking of Netflix and Albany.
I wish I dreamt of you instead

It is not poetic license to say that
the gift of a small orange tangerine
can be the most valuable treasure there is

xx

I don’t get any work done anymore,
due to the writing poems, but for all the reasons
I’ve been unproductive, that’s the best

xx

Today’s citrus was not a blood orange, no,
some bitter imposter, enough seeds to propagate an orchard,
though who would even want so much sour fruit?

xx

Dreaming, I’m falling asleep; convey
my regards to your mum, and if I’m lying
on the floor of the train, please don’t move me

xx

On the subway a woman runs crossword answers
past her partner. He waits, holding the exit door
for her. I’m happy for them, or impervious

xx

At the bail window: a tiny decorative turtle,
shell emblazoned with ‘live laugh love,’
admittedly a useful reminder

xx

But what I’d really like to tell you is:
don’t text me if you don’t miss me
